About BEST Patras
BEST (Board of European Students of Technology) is a non-political, non-profit student voluntary organization active in Europe since 1989.
It currently counts more than 80 local groups throughout Europe, one of them at the University of Patras!

Patras
Patras is located in the northern Peloponnese and it's the regional capital of Western
Greece. According to mythology, its name comes from Patreus, who was the founder
of the city. Patras has a big port which is a nodal point for trade and communication
with Italy and the rest of Western Europe.
Nearby, Rio-Antirrio Bridge is the world's
longest multi-span cable-stayed bridge which is also widely considered to be an
engineering masterpiece.

It is a cable-stayed bridge with a length of 2880 meters and it has been calculated that it can withstand a possible collision of a tanker with a displacement of 180,000 tons!
Name
The name of the city is based on mythology and comes from Patreas, the mythical settler of the city, who came as head of settlers in the area of Aroi and expelled the Ionian inhabitants. He gave the settlement the name Patrai.
Location
